Approximately twenty-five thousand homes in southeastern Queensland found themselves without power on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms passed over the state, generating strong winds hitting 109 kilometers per hour.

Large Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Destruction

Homeowners reported giant hailstones reaching sizes of 7cm in particular locations. Weather authorities verified that multiple regions across Queensland had been hit with large hailstones.

Utility workers were working to restore electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews working to address the widespread outages.

Victorian Weather Woes

Simultaneously, approximately 1,000 energy customers in the southern state also experienced energy failures after Melbourne experienced its most precipitation in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services received nearly 600 requests for assistance across the state, mainly for structural issues but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

At the height on the previous day, in excess of 28,000 electricity consumers in the state were without power.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along much of eastern Queensland this week as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

Tomorrow was forecast to be the most rainy day, with continued storm activity expected across multiple regions of both regions.

Health Warning

Medical authorities alerted that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, especially given the ongoing climate situation.
